About Margaret de Wit
Leadership. Dedication. Community Spirit.Margaret de Wit is the Brisbane City Councillor for the Ward of Pullenvale, in Brisbane's west - a position she has held since being elected in 1997.
Margaret is known widely as a tireless and passionate worker for residents of the Pullenvale Ward and has delivered many community initiatives.
Prior to her election, Margaret spent time working in the not-for-profit sector as a volunteer, then for several years as Community Liaison Manager for BoysTown Family Care. This was after a career of nearly 20 years with Telecom Australia (Telstra).
Margaret is the patron of a number of local community organisations including Meals on Wheels, Moggill Cricket Club, Bellbowrie Sports Club and the Bellbowrie Swimming Club. She is on the management committees of The Hut Environment and Community Association and the Pullen Pullen Catchments Group (which she founded). Margaret is also an active member of the Kenmore Chamber of Commerce and the Anglican Church, and is an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Kenmore. For her services to the community, Margaret was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Karana Downs and a second Paul Harris Fellow award from the Rotary Club of Kenmore.
Following former Lord Mayor Campbell Newman gaining a majority at the 2008 election, Margaret fulfilled the role of Chairman of Council, which is similar to the Speaker of the House in the State Government, from 2008 until July 2010.
Margaret is currently the Chairman of Council's Infrastructure Committee and was previously Chairman of the Public and Active Transport Committee.
Margaret is Junior Vice-President of the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) and a director of LGAQ Ltd.
Margaret holds a Graduate Diploma of Business Administration from Queensland University of Technology, a Diploma of Financial Planning and Associate of Music Australia. She is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Margaret and her husband, Hank, have lived in the Ward for the past 23 years. She enjoys music, theatre, gardening and walking.
