Creek Ranger Program Really Cleans Up

22 October, 2009

Council's Creek Ranger Program has been recognised for its outstanding contribution to the environment by winning two major awards.

The Creek Ranger team has won the Local Government Landcare Partnership award at the 2009 Queensland Landcare Awards and a Lord Mayor's Award for Excellence for Environmental Achievement.

The program was recognised for the following contributions:
- Assisting Council in delivering on-ground and strategic results for Brisbane’s catchments and city wide outcomes, including Clean, Green, City; Active, Healthy City; Friendly Safe City; and Regional World City
- Attracting $1.18 million in external revenue in 2008, which is invested back into waterway health projects
- Developing key partnerships with industry, residents and schools through creekWATCH, Ithica Intact and Catchment Kids and establishing two new community catchment groups.

Brisbane City Council is the only local government to offer this level of partnership with the community in catchment management.
